January 31, 2018, 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM @ The Hermitage Museum
Experience the Hermitage decorated for the holidays and visit the Roaring Twenties Christmas Display. Step back in time and experience a 1920's Christmas party! The display throughout the museum features elegant flappers in gorgeous gowns, dapper gentlemen in black tie and tails and children in their holiday best - all celebrating the season in festively decked-out rooms. Holiday decorations will be on display in the Hermitage from November 8, 2017 through January 2018.
January 31, 2018, 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM @ Palisades Interstate Park
On Wednesday evening PIP staff will lead a special night hike through the trails at the State Line Lookout area in Alpine. Hikers should plan to meet at the Lookout, accessible from the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway at Exit 3 at 8 PM. If the skies are clear, the trails will be lit by the full moon, but hikers should BRING FLASHLIGHTS with them. The route will traverse about 2 miles in about 1.5 hours, over moderate hiking trails. The January full moon is known as the “Wolf Moon,” an Algonquin Indian name given it because, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, “it appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages.” (January 2018 is unusual for having two full moons — the first is on New Year’s Day — making this second one a “blue moon” — hence, the hike leaders have named their hike a “Blue Wolf Moon Hike”…)
