  2. Brigit’s Day and Candlemas at Historic New Bridge Landing

    Brigit’s Day and Candlemas come midway between the winter solstice and spring equinox, when snowdrops, the first flower of spring, make their appearance, signaling nature’s awakening from winter’s sleep. Candlemas is named for the blessing of candles, used to protect homes and for procession through farm field and orchard. Some of the Society’s treasure of Revolutionary War artifacts are on display. All 3 Jersey-Dutch Houses will be open. Selections from the BCHS coverlet collection will be on exhibit. Demonstration of the 18th century craft of candle-making using authentic materials including lard in the Outkitchen.

  3. Visit a Special Holiday Display in the Historic Hermitage!

    Experience the Hermitage decorated for the holidays and visit the Roaring Twenties Christmas Display. Step back in time and experience a 1920's Christmas party! The display throughout the museum features elegant flappers in gorgeous gowns, dapper gentlemen in black tie and tails and children in their holiday best - all celebrating the season in festively decked-out rooms. Holiday decorations will be on display in the Hermitage from November 8, 2017 through January 2018.

  4. Joyce Kilmer Day Celebration: Joyce Kilmer Society of Mahwah Poetry Winners

    January 28, 2018, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

    Alex Michelini, president of the Joyce Kilmer Society of Mahwah, said the winning authors have been notified and the names will be announced at ceremonies honoring them. Each winner will receive a Certificate of Recognition and an opportunity to recite their winning poems. Four will also each receive a $50 “Best in Show” honorarium and six will each receive awarded a $25 “Honorable Mention” honorarium. The “Joyce Kilmer Day” celebration also will include a live dramatization of Kilmer’s tribute to trains, “The Twelve-Forty-Five” by musician/videographer Al DiGiacomo. A photo display of train stations of bygone days mentioned in the poem will be presented. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremonies, which begin at 2 pm. Free admission. An anniversary cake, cookies, coffee and cocoa will be served.
