Each May, the Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs invites High School concert bands to gather at the beautiful Amphitheater in the new Overpeck County Park for a program of individual performances. Each group is permitted time to perform for the other participating groups as well as the gathered audience of family and friends. The event is non-competitive but each group receives a recognition certificate from the County of Bergen.
Audience seating is on the lawn and the event is fully supported with the Amphitheater Concession stand and rest room facilities. The Amphitheater is located on a hillside beside the Hackensack River, a beautiful park site with plenty of parking available.
Schools that were scheduled to compete in 2014 included the Bergenfield High School Honors Wind Symphony, the Fort Lee High School Honors Wind Ensemble, and the Saddle Brook High School Concert Band.
The High School Band Invitational helps the Division meet its arts education goals by providing an opportunity for Bergen’s best high school bands to hear other fine county bands and perform in a professional venue. Both benefits are expected to result in increased experience and artistic excellence.
